Together with writer Arnold van Bruggen, we have been awarded one of the annual grants from Stichting Oog op de Natuur. Our proposed project on the pollution of the Romanian Danube Delta is a continuation of earlier work on this theme that we created in southern Spain and is part of the overarching The Europeans. This autumn, we will travel to the Danube Delta for the first time to create new work, followed by a second trip in early 2027. Many thanks to the Oog op de Natuur Foundation for their trust.

New publication: Where the Fire Slumbers
21.06.2026

repro_when_the_fire_slumbers_402_package

On the occasion of the retrospective exhibition Ordinary People at MGML Jakopič Gallery in Ljubljana, a striking catalogue has been published in a limited edition of 300 copies. Where the Fire Slumbers is the result of a working period together with Arnold van Bruggen in the Slovenian regions of Koroška and Ptuj, exploring themes of industrial transition and local identity. The publication—28 pages and measuring a monumental 32 x 45 cm—is only available for purchase at the exhibition. However, in my online store, I am offering 3 x 33 numbered and signed copies for €150 each, all of which come with an archival print in the size 28 x 35 cm (advantage of a large publication is that it can be combined with a large print).

More information soon.

From February 2 to 12, I’ll be in Slovenia creating new work for The Europeans, some of which will be included in the exhibition Ordinary People, opening on May 27, 2026, at Jakopič Gallery, part of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana. The exhibition Ordinary People was previously shown in The Hague from December 2023 to March 2024 and will now be augmented with new works from the past two years. A few copies of the Ordinary People book are still available through my webshop.

New for rent: Kingfishers, Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2025.

From October 6 to 15, I’ll be in Southern Europe with my co-author of The Europeans, Arnold Van Bruggen, working on a project about the world’s largest greenhouse region. We’re exploring a vast range of topics—from the area’s history to its reliance on migrant labor, from local culture and traditions to the drifting plastic that clings to thorn bushes. The results will culminate in the presentation of an extensive chapter within The Europeans in 2026.

In the satellite images above, you can see the rise and fall of one of many makeshift settlements called ‘El Walili’ between 2015 and 2025, where hundreds of migrant workers were housed.

Together with writer Arnold van Bruggen, I am working in southeastern Spain on a new project within The Europeans, covering various topics related to Europe’s largest vegetable garden. We intend to create a book about it and hope to launch it in the fall.

During our first work trip to southeastern Spain, in collaboration with the artist-in-residence AADK in Blanca, we focused on three words: WATER, WORK, and PLASTIC. These three topics are closely connected to the vast greenhouse region around the town of Almería and the importance of this area for supplying vegetables and fruit to almost all major European supermarket chains.
