It is early on Sunday morning when dozens of young people gather on the main square in a small town. Some are in full regalia; others carry bags of clothes and start to change. Still others come dressed as a bear, minstrel, mayor or dancer with a red cap on their head. They all know each other. This is the annual masquerade, which is repeated in the villages around the valley over a period of several weeks.
